December 5 - Asanas & Affirmations -Asanas are the physical postures in yoga. The first part of this class will be spent doing physical postures to strengthen and stretch the muscles. We will finish the class by writing affirmations for ourselves! Affirmation ornaments will be provided to take home or decorate the chakra tree with. “Affirmations are proven methods of self-improvement because of their ability to rewire our brains. Much like exercise, they raise the level of feel-good hormones and push our brains to form new clusters of ‘positive thought’neurons”(http://www.arlenetaylor.org/brain-care/953-affirmation).
December 12 - Goal Pose “Malasana” (Garland Pose) - Sometimes called “the yogi’s squat,” Malasana offers the opportunity to stretch tight calves and hip muscles while toning the abdominal muscles and improving our digestion. Malasana also improves balance and increases our ability to focus. During a busy holiday season, this pose also allows us to feel a sense of feeling grounded and calm.
December 19 - Goal Pose - “Vrksasana” (Tree Pose) - Trees are used in many cultures, from their roots to their leaves, for their healing properties. They are also symbolic of the bridge between creator and individual; between earth & sky. Vrksasana is a yoga pose that improves posture, boosts energy, increases confidence and calms the mind. Physically, it strengthens the foot, ankle, thigh and glutes of the standing leg while stretching the inner thigh and quads of the lifted leg. This class will offer preparatory poses as well as modifications!
